Yucatán is known for its haciendas. There are several of them very close to Mérida. Built between the 17th and 19th centuries, they are considered the architectural treasures of the state of Yucatán. Of these, San José Cholul, Santa Rosa and Temozón stand out, which today operate as exclusive hotels. The haciendas were initially dedicated to the production of corn, then some were used for the production of sugar and from the mid-19th century to the cultivation of henequen.
